Frequently Asked Questions
1. What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a chance for me to understand what brings you in, what symptoms you’ve been experiencing, what your goals are, what you’re hoping to achieve in therapy. Then, I’ll come up with a plan to address your goals and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start, many people come in feeling unsure of where to begin, and that’s completely okay. We can identify some goals together and a path that feels right for you.
2. How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, dysregulated, or noticing patterns in your life or relationships that you’d like to change, therapy can be helpful.
You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people come simply because they want to understand themselves better or find better ways to cope with their emotions and improve their relationships.
3. How long does therapy take?
This varies depending on your goals and what you’re working through.
Some clients come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and create lasting change. We’ll check in regularly to make sure the pace and direction feel right for you.
4. What approaches do you use?
I draw from several evidence-based approaches, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This allows me to tailor therapy to your unique needs.
5. Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
I offer virtual and in person sessions.
6. What are your fees and do you offer insurance receipts?
My fee is $170 per 50-minute session for individual therapy and $180 for couples therapy. I provide receipts that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement, depending on your coverage.
7. How often will we meet?
Most clients start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency. As therapy progresses, we can adjust the frequency based on your needs and goals.
8. Do you work with individuals or couples?
I work with both individuals and couples.
For individuals, we may focus on things like anxiety, depression, trauma and emotional regulation.
For couples, we focus on understanding conflict patterns, attachment styles, improving communication, and rebuilding connection.
10. What if I feel nervous about starting therapy?
Feeling nervous is completely normal!
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re not used to talking about your inner world. We’ll move at a pace that feels manageable for you, and there’s no pressure to share more than what you’re ready for.
11. Do you help with relationship patterns or attachment issues?
Yes, this is a central part of my work.
Many people find themselves stuck in repeating relationship patterns, whether that’s feeling anxious, shutting down, or struggling to feel secure. Together, we explore where these patterns come from and how to shift them.
12. Will you give me advice or tell me what to do?
My approach is collaborative rather than directive.
I won’t tell you what decisions to make, but I will help you make the right decision for you helping you understand yourself more clearly, explore your options, and support you in making choices that align with your values.
13. What makes your approach different?
I focus not just on symptoms, but on the underlying patterns and emotional experiences driving them.
Rather than just coping with problems, we work toward deeper, lasting change by helping you understand yourself, your emotions, and your relationships in a new way.
